Fray learned how to fly in Kansas where they worked for Garmin teaching pilots about Garmin avionics. As a member of the NGPA, they help build, support, and unite the LGBTQ aviation community. Before becoming a pilot, they learned to speak Japanese at Sophia University in Tokyo and the University of Missouri in Columbia.
