Eligibility Requirements for Instrument Rating

  • Hold at least private pilot certificate.
  • Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language.
  • Receive the ground training and pass the FAA knowledge test.
  • Receive the required flight training and pass the FAA practical test.
  • Hold at least a third-class medical certificate.

Flight Experience Requirements for Instrument Rating

  • Total 40 hours of instrument flight time (hood of IMC)
  • At least 15 hours of flight training from authorized flight instructor.
  • 50 hours of cross-country time as a Pilot-In-Command
