Instrument Rating

An Instrument Rating add-on to your private pilot certificate allows you to fly in weather conditions and airspace that requires the use of your instruments as your primary reference. This rating is not optional for professional pilots, as they fly aircraft in airspace under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) where air traffic control clearance is required.

Even if you are flying for just a fun on your private pilot certificate, an instrument rating will help become a safer pilot, as IFR flying requires you to control an aircraft more precisely. It also gives you the ability to plan your adventures, even if the weather is not perfect.
